The Answer: Grow Any Business, Achieve Financial Freedom, and Live an Extraordinary Life John Assaraf & Murray Smith

According to the authors, The Answer is about taking ownership of your life and your business, executing your actions so that you are the cause and not simply the effect (xiv).

The secret to our success lies in controlling our thoughts. The limitations that we face come largely from our own self-limiting thoughts (2).  Einstein made the discovery that energy and matter can be transformed back and forth into each other.  Once we understand that there is no distinction between matter and energy, the boundaries between our physical world and our thoughts start to disappear as well (12).   Matter and energy are just two of the forms that consciousness takes (15).

We see what we are prepared or conditioned to see.  Our beliefs do not just reflect our reality, they create our reality (17).  Ideas precede things (19).  Every phenomenon in the universe starts as an idea (23).

Victim thinking and entrepreneurship are mutually exclusive (24).  We must become practiced at creating the thoughts that serve our businesses (25).  Resonance is the transfer of vibration from one medium to another.  Energy in a specific frequency will resonate with other forms of energy in a similar pattern.  The Law of Attraction is the act of resonance together with cause and effect (27).  As man thinketh in his heart, so is he (Proverbs).

The key to building a successful business lies in the clarity and strength of its ideas, similar to the way a seed attracts nutrients and water to sprout.  The “how” follows vision and decision The Law of Gestation requires patience to harvest a crop’s bounty (29).  Similarly, ideas take time to germinate, grow, take root, and find resources (31).  The Law of Attraction works together with the Laws of Gestation and Action.  Be purposeful, patient, and active (32).  The more clarity we create around our businesses, the more we can harness the energy of the universe to bring ideas into reality (33).

Intuition is the direct perception of pure energy.  The best way to strengthen intuition is to put complete faith and trust in it.  Strong intuition involves conscious awareness.  Imagination involves the ability to create pictures in our minds and make them vivid (43).  With repetition, a habit of thought becomes a belief (49).  Setting goals is a function of the conscious mind; reaching them is a function of the non-conscious mind (51).

Conscious and Non-conscious Mind Differences (48-49)

Conscious             Non-conscious

Brain mass            17%                      83%

Impulse speed      120-140 mph        over 100,000 mph

Processing (bps)   2,000                    400 billion

Control of              2-4%                    96-98%
perception/ behavior

Function                volitional               servile: executes goals

Time                      past/future            present

Memory horizon    up to 20 sec          forever

We can choose what we think, but are unlikely to act on it until we deliver those thoughts to our non-conscious mind (52).  Neuroplasticity involves the ability to make new brain cells and new neural connections (57).  We are structured to grow our creativity, intelligence, and capacity for achievement throughout our lives (58). When we create a clear, focused picture of what we want, the reticular activating system kicks into high gear; it is important to program it with what we want to achieve.

To the unconscious, there are no secrets (61-62).  Worry is a prayer for what you don’t want (63). According to Maxwell Maltz, a plastic surgeon in the 1950’s, any change that we make in our lives that makes us uncomfortable, sending out a chemical signal that we perceive as doubt and danger (65-66).  We need to reframe these signals as an indication to readjust our set points, i.e. feel the fear and do it anyway, seeing change as a breakthrough rather than a threat (69). Neurons that fire together, wire together (71).  Thus, we are paving the way for our dream business.

Successful business people are driven to change the world around them.  Impact is the measure, not size or scale (73-74).  For those who want to create a sustainable dream business, that business must be an expression of their passion.  When you ask, “Are my goals worthy of me,” the only answer that counts is “Absolutely.”  Your motive (the why?) constitutes your perfect seed (75-7).
